Alfa Romeo Disco Volante by Touring
This past weekend we celebrated the Elegance Contest Villa d'Este, the prestigious event for years awards the best historic vehicles in the world, and the most exciting prototypes, which are voted on by the public referendum on the grounds of the Villa. In class "Concept Car and Prototypes" this year has set the Alfa Romeo Disco, two-seater coupé built by hand by the Milanese workshop based on the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione with chassis and engine sharing. The fascinating vehicle meets aesthetic quality and sporty details, in addition to employing advanced materials (carbon fiber and aluminum) for maximum lightness. Each unit requires more than 4000 hours of highly qualified and built only on request: In the competition stated the vehicle number 01, and two others are already nearing completion.


Alfa Romeo Disco

The car pays homage to Alfa Romeo 1900 C52 "Disco Volante", a coupe of exclusive features that just this year celebrates its 60th anniversary. Designed by Carrozzeria Touring in 1952, the C52 boasted of great lightness and aerodynamic efficiency, and impressed the collective imagination, earning the nickname 'Disco Volante', and quickly became an icon of automotive design. The backbone of the Alfa Romeo Disco Volante by Touring is the chassis of the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, chosen by its rigid structure and light, perfect for redesigning a high performance car. In particular, the architecture is center front engine, rear-drive transaxle shift. This scheme provides an optimal load distribution 49-51% between the front and rear. Suspensions are quadrilateral, with portacubos and forged aluminum arms and rear auxiliary strut to control convergence.

The propeller, compact and lightweight, is a 4.7-liter V8 and 450 hp with 480nm of torque. Change is sequential 6-speed electrical performance paddles on the steering wheel, limited slip differential and brakes are generously dimensioned ventilated. Thus equipped, the Alfa Romeo Disco Volante by Touring accelerates from 0-100 km / h in 4.2 seconds and reaches 290 km / h. Finally, note that it is already the second time that Alfa Romeo won this prestigious award in the Contest of Elegance Villa d'Este, in the 2012 edition, the audience rewarded the Alfa Romeo 4C, the compact supercar perfected result of experience with Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione and the 8C Spider.
